Paul Smaltz is Senior Vice President, Pharmaceutical Solutions, BASF, where he leads the company’s global excipients and active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) business, overseeing commercial, technical, operational, and regulatory functions worldwide. Overall, he has more than three decades of leadership experience across the pharmaceutical, life sciences, and specialty chemicals industries.  
 
Prior to BASF, Paul spent 10 years at Roquette Frères as Senior Vice President and Head of the Pharmaceutical Global Business Unit, driving the transformation of the organization into a market-leading supplier of excipients and APIs, strengthening its global footprint, enhancing quality systems, and advancing innovation capabilities. Previously, he held senior executive roles at Avantor Performance Materials leading the biopharmaceutical ingredients business and driving strategic growth across key markets. 
 
Paul holds an MBA from Lehigh University, a B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Pittsburgh, and completed executive education at the Kellogg School of Management. He has served and held leadership positions on multiple industry and nonprofit boards, including the Corn Refiners Association, Rx-360, DCAT, and the United Way of Fox Valley.
