DCAT Week 2020 Annual Meeting: Statement on Coronavirus

Robbinsville, New Jersey  February 13, 2020  – The Drug, Chemical & Associated Technologies Association (DCAT) announced that DCAT Week, its annual meeting in New York City from March 23 – 26, 2020, will take place as planned. DCAT has been closely monitoring developments of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and working with its hotel partners to ensure a safe and successful event for its members.

“The DCAT organization seeks to reassure its members that their health and safety is paramount and that DCAT will continue to monitor recommendations from the global health community and work with our Official DCAT Week Hotel partners to take every precaution to ensure a safe environment for our members to convene,” said DCAT Executive Director Margaret Timony.

At present, the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene website states that no individuals have been diagnosed with COVID-19 in New York City and the risk to New Yorkers of contracting this novel coronavirus is low. Mayor Bill de Blasio and other public officials are actively working to ease anxieties regarding the spread of the virus.

In addition, the World Health Organization has not recommended the restriction of international travel and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention states that for the general American public, who are unlikely to be exposed to this virus, the immediate health risk from COVID-19 is considered low at this time.

As the DCAT Week event does not have a single point of entry and is held at multiple public hotels, the DCAT organization is unable to restrict the movement of individuals. Official DCAT Week Hotels with guidance from the US Travel Association are reinforcing recommended measures on appropriate hygiene standards and following the guidelines of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the World Health Organization and local health authorities. Measures include frequent and thorough inspection of common areas, and sanitizing door handles and elevator buttons. Also, DCAT will ensure that ample hand sanitation products are available in hotel lobbies, member lounges and event areas and that masks are available for use. Furthermore, DCAT is providing on-site information to attendees on how to best protect themselves during the event as well as contact information and assistance to those who might feel they require medical attention.

Updated information will be posted at http://www.dcat.org as it becomes available.
